How to create a tree themed children’s bedroom

Spring is on it’s way and I’ve been thinking about tree murals and decorating children’s rooms and nurseries with a tree theme.

I’ve found some lovely ideas that might inspire you to do the same for your child room.
The theme is gentle and timeless. Depending on the style you choose, the look could be equally at home in a baby nursery as a child’s room.

Firstly the wall decor and of course murals in partcular

Your choices are to hire a mural artist to paint a mural for you
or
Stick on tree themed decals or wall stickers
or
Paint one yourself using a paint by number kit or tree stencil kit

and then there’s ideas for other tree themed elements that you could incorporate around the room to tie the theme together.

Tree themed Baby nursery

This nature-themed nursery was created for a client in Southern California, and features floor-to-ceiling custom items. The real tree branches, mingled with the tree and bird decals, are truly a spectacle!

Over the changing table, tree branch hooks carry cute little buckets to put all those bits and pieces needed for changing nappies (wipes, diapers, etc…).

Tree decals combined with real branches suspended from the ceiling create a place to hang little pictures and toys above the crib.

Make a rustic tree curtain pole

I found this image on In Home Design

There doesn’t seem to be any instructions on how to make this so here are my suggestions.

How to Do it

Go for a walk in the country side and find yourself a lovely stick.
Make sure it is the correct width for your window plus some extra either side of the window.
Try and find a stick that is quite dry.
Paint the stick with an undercoat and then spray or paint it any colour you wish.
Use an acrylic paint intended for woodwork.
Purchase two curtain pole brackets that come in various shapes and forms.
Like this one below for example.

Attach the brackets to the wall add your painted branch and all that’s left to do it attach your curtain.

Please note that because the branch may be twisted and ‘branchy’ you will might find that tie on curtains like the one in the picture above will be easier to install.
These curtains are better left open as a decorative feature rather than a functional curtain.
A blind on the actual window would be advisable to use in conjunction with the curtains.

Et Voila!

Tree Themed Shelves

I think this is charming and simple. I found it at Live Wire Farm .
If you are a bit handy I don’t think it would be difficult to recreate the same idea.

How to Do it

Find two appropriately shaped branches.
Cut the back of each one flat so that they can be screwed flat against a wall.
Make sure that the tops are cut flat too so that your shelf can rest flat on the top.
Buy or find, or cut a shelf the length and depth you require
Mark where the supports touch the shelf and screw a couple of screws downwards into the branch brackets to keep it in place
Et voila!

Some more rustic shelf ideas to compliment the tree theme. I spotted this one on Design Sponge.

Hang pretty flowery bags on the hooks to store toys or other bits and pieces, or simply hang coats on it!

When I look at these beds, I think that with a little bit of thought you could make something similar.

What’s to stop you screwing some lovely branches like the ones above to an existing bed to turn it into a tree themed four poster bed?

Or how about a canopy above the bed substituting the pole for a tree branch?

Kid’s Bedroom Decor Idea – Dinosaur Adventure

Decorating your kid’s bedroom is great fun for parents and children. One popular decor idea for sons or daughters is a dinosaur adventure motif. Many young boys love dinosaurs and other prehistoric beasts.

Use the following tips and ideas to turn your kid’s bedroom into an adventurous dinosaur jungle.

Dinosaur Adventure Kid’s Bedroom Painting Ideas

All dinosaurs did not live in the jungle.  However, the prehistoric world was populated by some large trees and ferns.  The first step in turning your kid’s bedroom into a dinosaur adventure is painting the walls to represent this jungle-like habitat.

Paint the walls green and add different colors of green for giant leaves, fern fronds, and palm type trees.  If you are really adventurous, paint in some logs and rocks as well.  Painting the ceiling blue will make your kid feel as if their bedroom is really outside in a dinosaur habitat.

If your kid prefers, you can paint the room to look like a desert dinosaur habitat.  The main colors would be tan, brown, and yellow.  You can paint large rocks or an oasis on one wall.

Dinosaur Adventure Kid’s Bedroom Furniture Ideas

Furniture was never found in dinosaur times, but your kid needs some in his bedroom.  You can paint small dinosaurs, dinosaur footprints, or scale pattern on your kid’s bedroom furniture.  Or, you can transform the furniture into giant dinosaurs by cutting out pieces of plywood in the shape of the dinosaurs and attaching it to the sides of the furniture.  For example, your kid’s bed could become a sleeping stegosaurus with a plywood shape on each side.

Dinosaur Adventure Kid’s Bedroom Accessory Ideas

Making the dinosaur adventure themed kid’s bedroom is easy with the right accessories.  You should be able to find dinosaur printed bed linens such as sheets and blankets.  You can buy or sew dinosaur shaped pillows for the bed or chairs.  Any type of jungle style accessories would work well.  Buy a lamp with a shade that looks like palm fronds.  Get a carpet remnant and cut out the shape of a giant dinosaur footprint for a throw rug.  Use wooden dinosaur teeth as pegs where your kid can hang their coat and hat.

Decorating your kid’s bedroom in a dinosaur adventure style is a great idea for kids that love prehistoric animals.  By using a jungle motif and lots of dinosaur pictures and toys, your son or daughter will love their adventure bedroom.

With all the beautiful costumes that come with ballet and dance, decorating ideas for a ballet beadroom are halfway there.

One of the simplist and effective ideas is to display your little girl’s tutu and ballet slippers (or any other ballet costumes) on the wall.

How to make a Bird Mobile

I just love anything to do with birds when it comes to decor so I thought I’d share this bird mobile project with you that I can across today on The Red Thread.

I’ve featured a bird mobile before here, but this one is so cute too, and worthy of note.
Make it as a gift for a baby shower or create it with your child using up old scraps of fabric. A great rainy day project that can be done in stages if necessary for your own child’s room. Mind you it’ll be just as lovely in an adult room too or hanging in a tree on a warm evening amongst some fairy lights.

You will need

- Newspaper
- Scissors
- Sicky tape
- PVA glue
- Brightly coloured fabric scraps
- Rattan cane hoops (from craft shops). 20 – 24cm [8 - 9.5 inches] in diameter
- 4 -5 cm [2 inches] diameter styrofoam balls – optional
- Embroidery thread
- Long needle

It’s not hard.
